Just a few years ago, my journey into the world of commercial photography began quite unexpectedly. Initially driven by a desire to run a home decor e-shop, I curated and even created beautiful items for my e-shop. Despite having no prior experience in content creation, it quickly became the aspect of the business that I enjoyed the most.
My role was comprehensive—I crafted my own product photos, both packshots and lifestyle images, and filmed videos. Additionally, I managed the social media accounts (and handled the myriad other responsibilities that e-shop owners often juggle). Surprisingly, what started as a necessity soon blossomed into a passion. My unique aesthetic sense didn't go unnoticed, and my profile swiftly grew to more than ten thousand followers within the first year.
However, as is often the case, the passion for my business began to wane after a few years. The demands extended beyond content creation and social media management, and I found my enthusiasm diminishing. Nevertheless, I made a promise to myself: I would continue to share my sense of aesthetics, photography, and related subjects in a more personal space. Thus, the new Instagram page "Greta Takes Photos" was born.
On this new platform, I began by sharing the work I did for my e-shop, along with everything else I found beautiful and inspiring. Recognizing the need for a more robust portfolio, I reached out to brands I admired in Lithuania, offering to create aesthetic photos for them to use on their social media and websites at no cost. This initiative wasn't just about building my portfolio—it was about learning, networking and generally setting the stage for a deeper engagement with the world of commercial photography.
Soon after I began sharing my work, I started gaining real clients. The projects grew more substantial, involving serious work for clients' websites and social media platforms.
Since those early days, I've worked with a diverse range of clients, from niche creators to eight-figure businesses, covering everyone in between. I’ve honed my skills and focused my efforts on specific areas within product photography that I'm most passionate about—jewelry, perfumes, cosmetics, and accessories. This niche approach has not only allowed me to specialize and improve my craft but also to attract clients who appreciate and seek my particular aesthetic.
My journey to a commercial photographer illustrates the power of pursuing one’s passions and leveraging one’s skills. It shows that with dedication, creativity, and a willingness to evolve and adapt, it's possible to carve out a successful path in even the most competitive fields. If you have any questions about my path, please contact me, I am sure I have a lot to share.
